Rating by the 5D Sensograph of placescases.com:
5D score: 5 out of 5.
…. Great, contemporary, extraordinary exterior, (especially compared with the other bars around, covered with a little grubby nylon)- funny tables and chairs, as like in a new classroom from old times, with fresh flowers on the tables, stones in cages and big flower pots;
…. Original carte, not only as dishes but also as appearance;
…. Nicely plated tapas, bruschettas and salads– for example, a tomato filled with goat cheese mousse in a pan or toast with an appetizer on a wooden board.
…. Young waiters, doing well their job;
…. The urban ambiance at the National Theater square and park.
…. Modern upbeat music, combined with the pedestrian noise and the murmur of the fountain in front of the theater.
…. Ginger, present in the smoothies and of course in the Gingelade;
…. The daring smell of goat cheese mousse in one of the salads with tomatoes.
…. Smoothie, lemonades, coffee, salads, bruschettas, desserts and alcohol drinks- wine, cocktails, shots, beer;
…. The fine thin ginger strips in your mouth, that you need to pull out all the time, which proves that they use ginger roots not powder.
I was on my way to another place that I intended to write about. However, since I have read about Bar Soca, in the loom of their introduction PR campaign, I was tempted to come by it in the first week of its opening. There were some debates about its name- some people were blaming the owners of nostalgia about socialism but the bar marketers were claiming that SOC comes from SOCIAL, not SOCIALIST.
We were hungry and we thought that it is just a bar, offering only drinks. We were wondering if we should go to eat somewhere first or sit at Bar Soca and have a drink instead. Meanwhile a girl from the bar staff approached us smilingly and invited us to have a seat. She explained that they have tapas and salads and we did well sitting there. We really had some good girly time- laughing, sharing each other’s dishes. We felt great in the urban atmosphere at the National Theater square, away from the traffic noise, close to the green trees and fountain freshness.
That is the SOCIALISM in utopias, or more specifically the SOCIAL experience at Bar SOCA. When I visit the area of the National Theater, I will visit this bar again…. If there are vacant seats, since I thing everybody will be willing to sit there this summer.
