…. Straight from the yard entrance – a beautiful garden with colorful flowers, a vertical plant mural on the stone wall, the blue façade of an old city house- I feel that I’ll spend wonderful time in a rustic comfort;
…. Beauty is transferred outside in and it spreads more and more around in plentiful decoration pieces that you can’t stop looking at and amaze, it is like you are in a gallery full with wonderful stuff, from paintings to old objects – cupboard, rusty tools, tin pot, old stove with an amplifier on it and so on;
…. Walls, painted as if my daughters did them, with drawings, oil paintings attached with pins…. As well as colorful curtains, trimming the woodwork.
…. Interesting colorful furniture– chair with patchwork damask, next to it a wooden or iron one, sofa with ornamented and soft upholstery …. The whole interior is eclectic, crisp and funny;
….. Some of the tables are covered with old photo, molded wit resin to the wooden top;
…. Starters served on a board, arranged like paintings, provoking the artist in you, making you wonder whether you should eat them or draw them;
…. Nice plating of other dishes, like djambalaya, put in a pan.
…. Good service, corresponding to the place specifics – the waitress answered all our questions, regarding the design of the interior, she explained well not only the “exhibits” but also the dishes, she recommended some of them, emphasizing on their advantages from personal experience, besides, since we were sitting in a separate room, she was checking us from time to time if we needed anything and if we liked the food
…. The gentle tickling of the nettles on the tongue from a salad with cucumbers, radishes, spring garlic and olives;
…. Light jazz, Bulgarian folklore in jazz arrangement, Sting life and other nice pieces;
…. Muted talk from the neighboring tables – the whole restaurant is situated on 2 floors with several small rooms per each and a third floor is under construction, as well as the garden; the place is not very suitable for business meetings in the peak hours, since people around you will be listening.
…. A bunch of thyme in a small vase on the table;
…. The cucumber, smartly cut in thin stripes, put into the water carafe to fresh up both your nose and your eyes.
…. Home- made dishes, with a playful twist, making them original and delicious;
…. Salad with nettles and cucumbers, already mentioned above– fresh, tasty, with fine dressing, perfectly balanced – my hit in the daily menu;
….A board with cold beef tongue, sun-dried ham from Elena town, roasted garlic, marinated artichoke, crisp radishes, roasted red onion, sweet and crunchy; all this represents a starter, not only beautiful like a painting but also very delicious recommended to me by the waitress;
…. Jambalaya (a stew, prepared with several types of meat) with veal, smoked sausage, fried egg, grilled bacon and rice – a great meal, originating from French and Spanish lands; the veal was soft and gentle, the rice very good, not a single grain stuck to another- I would like to learn to cook this dish!
If you know already Made in Home, I introduce to you its younger sister- Made in Blue. It is a blue bead in the center of Sofia and it is only 1 week old, it even hasn’t got a sign yet. You can see only number 6 at the entrance and that’s it. However it is quite noticeable with its colorful flowers and blue- turquoise façade – no other house around is so cute and playful. A cheerful orange door, contrasting the blue invites you to enter. Inside I looked around jaw-hanging – I wanted to peak and snapshot in each and every room. Regardless of fact that the place is new, it was full with people, so I somehow resisted my initial urge. It was like love from the first sight – I was already planning to come back soon!
There are nice salads in the menu, as with Made in Home, and everything with a twist. There are main dishes and starters, both of them big portions, very delicious and beautiful. If you are not much of a heavy eater, I recommend to choose either a main or a starter, otherwise you will be brutally overeating. They offer daily menu with meals varying around BGN 9 per each, while the dishes in la carte are max. BGN 17. The desserts are brownies, panna cotta, cheese-cake, such sort of things. There are several types of wine but the list is not very extensive.
I don’t recommend to visit Made in Blue, since it will start to fill up very soon with customers and I will not be able to book a table for me. There are so many things that I would like to taste there, so I definitely have to go back soon. Ok, I will give you the street name but that’s it. To discover the street and telephone numbers, you have to read carefully the whole review and explore all the photos. Nice prank, ha!
