OLD IS NEW – A NEW RESTAURANT AT AN OLD PLACE, IN THE CENTER OF SOFIA, BULGARIA

… Incredibly interesting concept for the design;
… Murals on the walls- modern, interesting;
… Bench made of old skateboards – very cool, but I did not dare to sit, because it looked to me more like decoration than as furniture;
… Interesting cutlery with a smoky and oxidation effect;
… Sink made of old copper pail.
… Extremely smiling, responsive and welcoming waiters;
… Very uncomfortable tables– no chance to sit on one side of the table, you have to put one foot under it and the other stays outside, because it is very narrow, which gives you inconvenience for the whole evening.
… Very nice contemporary electro-jazz-chillout.
Old is New Interior
… Smell the curry in some of the exotic dishes;
… Slightly unpleasant smell of the ham in the cold cuts;
… Too much added smell of smoke in potatoes, fried duck liver.
…. Quite hot and not so tasty shrimps curry– watery and unimpressive;
… Ribs– not bad but the potatoes were too much fortified with a smoke flavor;
… A disappointing fried duck liver with too much smoke flavor, unnecessarily reinforced;
… Cold cuts, which have nothing to impress, except with the original presentation in a sort of metal pots;
… Dessert with French macaron in a pastry wrap that has nothing to do with the traditional French macaron because the latter has melted inside and has merged with the sheath of fried dough outside- I did not like it;
… Schnitzel and pizza– only those two were good to me, the pizza is different and special, but it is delicious, the schnitzel is a classic;
… Nice wine list, we tried wonderful French red wine Saint-Esprit 2016, Cotes-du-Rhone, Delas.
Old is New Food
Old Is New impresses most of all with its interior. There was another restaurant here before, and I don’t even remember whether I used to like it. However, now it is very interesting place, eclectic modern, with retro accents, very casual and appealing to the young audience. There are original murals and small pleasing details, one immediately likes.
Everything is great, but the tables are very uncomfortable, and the food surprisingly tasteless. As I found out from the web, the owner is Eliza Tokeva, daughter of the famous and extraordinary Chef Andre Tokev I wrote an article about his restaurant ANDRe, in which I praised his cuisine from my heart and stomach! 😉
Old is New is a very pleasant place and I would love if they could make the tables a little more comfortable and the food much better.
I doubt I will visit soon Old is New but I will do it later because I hope I will find improvements in the cuisine.
