SPA Hotel Grecotel Larisa Imperial, Larisa, Greece
I had never been to Larisa, but I really liked it. Yes, there is no beach, you have to take the car to go to the sea, but apart from that, Olympus Mountain is at the same distance. So, you have variety of choices.

See in Grecotel Larissa …
… The restaurant boasts a huge beautiful stained glass atrium, an opulent lobby, and wonderful Easter decorations that create expectations for luxury in the rooms, but that is not the case.
… The rooms and corridors need a slight cosmetic renovation: we stayed in a standard double room in the main body of the hotel – the shower was missing parts, there were slight damages here and there needing repair. Otherwise, it is spacious and comfortable. The carpet in the corridor is quite stained already and needs to be replaced.
Feel in Grecotel Larissa …
… We were welcomed with great pomp: the staff is very polite, everyone greets you, smiles. Only one waitress at breakfast was slightly rude and cranky, especially with us. She didn’t behave the same way with Greek guests.
… The hotel also offers a SPA and an outdoor pool: I haven’t tried them, so I can’t say anything.
… The compliments in the rooms are impersonal: packeted instant coffee and tea.
… The hotel has a serious drawback: it’s far from the center. You can’t walk there, it will take at least 50 minutes. A taxi or bus number 3 solves the problem.
Hear in Grecotel Larissa …
… At night, there was quite a bit of noise from guests returning in the early hours: I suppose this is a common occurrence during the weekend. Mostly Greek language was heard; what can you do, people love to party. The tap water is also drinkable.
Movie-watching time: 2:20 min.
Smell in Grecotel Larisa …
… The herb and fruit-infused water is very fresh and pleasant—a standout aroma.
Taste in Grecotel Larisa …
… A nice buffet with traditional Greek delicacies: everything was fresh and tasty. Unfortunately, the bougatsa looked not very appealing, maybe in comparison to the other things. I didn’t try it, even though it is my favorite traditional pastry.
… Coffee or tea of your choice, brought by a waiter: it doesn’t matter what coffee you want, it is included in breakfast. It’s slightly inconvenient that you have to wait for a waiter to ask them to bring it to you. Thus, I encountered unpleasant behavior from one of the girls, who seemed annoyed to serve us.
And more about Larisa and around…
You can dine at the hotel’s restaurant, but it is worth taking some transport and heading to the center. You can download an app to call a taxi, but I’m not sure if you can pay by card. Try myTAXI Larisa. Bus number 3 stops in front of the hotel—tickets can also be purchased through an app, as far as I understood from the information on the internet.
The center of Larisa is full of pleasant spots, small restaurants, and bars. After 20:00-20:30 everything starts to fill up, so on Fridays and Saturdays especially, make sure to reserve seats if you want to go to a specific place or simply go around 19:00.
We tried to go to Bukowski, but they didn’t have a single spot at 19:30. Apparently, foreigners who had read reviews on platforms like me had filled it up early. We walked down the street and chose WE urban gastronomy. It turned out to be a high-end place that was still empty but by 21:00, there wasn’t a single spot. It was very delicious, they offered wonderful local wine, and we were very pleased. They even have a wine shop where you can buy a bottle of what you’ve tried if you liked it. There, beef steaks are the big hit, try them if you are into meat.
The second evening we were at Akamatra—which is a very nice and cozy restaurant with a charming atmosphere, a slightly oriental-style kitchen, where the vegetarian offerings were wonderful.
Nearby, there are all sorts of natural and historical landmarks such as the Archaeological Park of Dion with the sanctuaries of Demeter and Zeus, the Monastery of St. Dionysius with its new version of St. Gregory.
The Amazing Meteora is nearby and must be visited.
On the way, don’t miss stopping at the picturesque village of Paleo Pantelimon at the foot of Olympus to eat deliciously, admire the views, buy wonderful handmade jewellery, and marvel at the stone houses that resemble those in Kovachevitsa in Bulgaria.
