I discovered Za Zu and its cafe, Boaty’s Tapas Cafe, while planning a beach trip along the Algarve coast. My choice turned out to be very successful. First we had breakfast at the cafe, then we went to the beach at Praia da Luz and finally we had dinner at Za Zu, ending with port on its rooftop terrace.
See in Za Zu …
… The design of the restaurant and the cafe are remarkable – wicker lamps, interesting panels on the walls, even the signs on the toilet doors in the cafe are very original, hand-painted;
… A short but very substantial menu;
… The view of Praia Da Luz fills the eye – the entire coast of the Algarve is very beautiful.
Feel in Za Zu …
… Very kind and expeditious service, in the cafe the girls from the staff are native English speakers;
… Because it is very windy at certain times by the ocean, if you are cold, they immediately give you a very fluffy and big enough blanket to wrap yourself in;
… The waiters regularly ask if everything is okay and if we like the food;
… The contrast between the icy granita and the spicy salsa verde in ceviche with tuna and avocado – a cleverly achieved balance in temperature sensations.
Hear in Za Zu …
… Chillout music, relaxing and complementing the whole ambience.
Movie watching time: 2:36 min.
Smell in Za Zu …
… Divine ceviche, with the aroma of coriander, coconut, lychee and ginger, but not only the aroma is wonderful, read in the next category Taste more about it;
… Mango, passion fruit and lime in the Tropilova dessert;
… Definitely you have to pair the meal with a glass of wine, let the waiters recommend it to you – there is a choice of good suggestions, but they will combine it perfectly with you meal.
Taste in Za Zu …
Everything we ordered was great.
… The tuna and avocado ceviche is served with lychee, coconut and lime granita – divine;
… Vietnamese roll with chicken or shrimp – both types are delicious, very fresh and with crunchy vegetables;
… Cod fish with miso sauce and togarashi – a tasty, light and delicious appetizer going perfectly well with the wonderful Portuguese wine;
Togarashi is a Japanese chilly spice powder made from chili pepper, orange peel, sesame, Japanese pepper, ginger, seaweed, and more.
… Tuna tataki- since it is caught here, it is always a good idea to try something with tuna. In this case it was wonderfully made, lightly sealed, fragrant and delicious;
… Sticky Korean chicken – breaded, lightly spicy, with sweet and sour sauce – very tasty!
… Corvina fish with black rice and vegetables – apart from plated very nice, with an imitation of fish bone made of black flour, it is also very tasty;
… Za Zu Asian Tasting – a board with several vey tasty dishes with different Asian tapas. Pork skewer Satay, curry chicken, beef, rice, pickle;
… In the end, we also had a Tropilova dessert with tiles of merengue dough, panna cotta and sorbet and we did not regret it. We added a glass of Port to it. We drank the Port upstairs on the rooftop terrace with a wonderful view.
I highly recommend Za Zu, it was one of the most interesting restaurants we visited in the Lagos area.
