In this post I answer the question I asked in one of my last posts- Is it worth going on vacation in Greece during the Covid-19 pandemic?
Just when I was making the reservation, new requirements entered into force for traveling to Greece like QR codes and negative PCR tests. There was a lot of uncertainty about our trip to Greece and I had to negotiate with Kappa Resort about the deposit in case we fail to cross the border. The people there were flexible and we agreed to act ad hoc according to the changes in the situation. Fortunately, everything happened according to our initial expectations and arrangements, and I did not regret for a single moment about the choice to spend our vacation in Greece, and exactly in Kappa.
Details about the trip to Greece and the requirements for Covid-19, you can find in the above-mentioned publication.
See ….
…. The whole complex consists of villas or apartments suitable for 2 to 5-6 people. Most have swimming pools, some use a shared, larger one to the resort. All of them are with sea view;
…. Magnificent view from villa K15 to the Aegean Sea. There is an olive tree right in front, which partially overlaps it, but does not completely cover it. The olive is a good thing, especially such a dignified old tree, so we have not been irritated at all that the view was slightly disturbed;
… Pleasant design of the villa, stylish, without unnecessary details, with many big pillows and very cozy.
Feel ….
…. In one word – comfort. The apartment consists of 2 rooms, 2 bathrooms, a small living room combined with a dining room and a kitchenette with a hot plate, a toaster, a water heating jar, an espresso machine with 4 compliment capsules, 2 compliment bottles of water in the small refrigerator, hotel type, unfortunately quite small for our needs. In front there is a wide veranda with a living room set and a view of the sea and the olive tree. In most cases for a similar amount of money you get two not very large rooms and one bathroom, or 3 small rooms with one bathroom. We lacked nothing here, we were not cramped, and we felt good;
…. Paperless administration – admirations and congratulations! All the necessary information is obtained from the application of the resort – Kappa Resort App – menus, all kinds of information about the restaurant, bar, massage, everything you are interested in. The restaurant also gives you a QR code that charges you the current menu for the day;
…. Pool in front of each villa – you get up, drink a coffee or a frappe, if you bring your own mixer, and enter it to cool off;
…. Very helpful people at the reception – I asked to change 2 of my coffee capsules with another type and they immediately responded, I asked for a second sheet and they provided it for me. They introduced me in detail to the nearby beautiful beaches, beach bars and taverns, answered each of my questions;
…. All safety rules against Covid-19 are followed.
Some small details were not quite right, which led to the heart drop from the evaluation of this category.
…. The lock was slightly shattered and sometimes we could not unlock it normally, and after a persistent but very slight movement of the key now left, now right, pushing back and forth with requests to unlock. I reported the problem at the reception, but obviously the repair should be more serious and did not happen in our time;
…. The phone was badly mounted on the wall and the handset was constantly falling, and we could not connect to the reception through it. The problem was also posed, but here, too, obviously more work will be needed to eliminate it, because it was never fixed until the end of our stay. As a result, we had to walk a steep slope to the reception to personally announce what we needed, but for me it was like a workout and didn’t bother me. For other people, however, the heat and the slope can be quite a test;
…. Overall, we are satisfied with the house-keeping, but there were discrepancies. Sheets are changed and the villas are cleaned every 3 days and shampoos are added. Towels are changed when you show them that there is a need, by placing them on the floor. Every day toilet paper is supplied and garbage is thrown away. So far so good, but… ..A couple of times, they had failed to enter because of the difficult-to-operate lock on the apartment door. At each main cleaning we were taken away the second sheet we had requested and I had to go to the reception “in person” again, on the slope. As I said, it wasn’t the workout that bothered me, but the fact that when I go to bed in the evening, I see that I have to solve a problem again, instead of resting;
…. The hotel has its own, well-maintained beach, with comfortable sun beds with soft mattresses and canopy booths;
…. The resort provides beach towels– you have to take and return them at reception;
…. The host on the beach serves the customers, disinfects, arranges and cleans the sun beds, brings drinks and food from the restaurant with an electric golf cart. They are very kind!
… The beach has quite coarse sand and pebbles, which requires beach or surf shoes.
What other beaches can you visit nearby on Kassandra, read in a separate review- Where can you go to a nice beach bar in Kassandra, Halkidiki?
Hear ….
…. The evening is quiet and pleasant, because we are at the end of the leg, where it is not so populated, but it also depends a lot on the neighbors in the other villas;
…. There is no music on the beach during the day and you can enjoy the sound of the waves.
Movie watching time: 2:43 min.
Smell ….
…. The wonderful aromas of herbs in the garden of Kappa Resort- lavender, rosemary, thyme, sage, oregano.
Did you know that young oregano has a very different sweet scent, similar to perfume. It has nothing to do with the spicy smell of the mature herb, which we all know and add to tea or potatoes, white cheese, fish, etc. The friendly staff of Kappa showed the stalk that I brought to the chef of the restaurant and that’s how I learned this information.
In this way, my experience at Kappa became not only enjoyable and fun, but also educational. I remember again the Experience Economy of Joseph Pine and James Gilmore, who say that the most memorable are those moments that are entertaining, educational, aesthetic, and an escapist.
In a natural way, the people who work at the Kappa resort make the experiences of the resort’s guests unforgettable, just as described in the Experience Economy.
Taste ….
…. A cup of capsules for the espresso machine, as well as 2 liters of mineral water in the refrigerator left as a compliment;
…. Make some tea from fresh herbs from the garden at least once. Like I said, there’s a water heating jar for boiling water and wonderful aromatic tufts of herbs;
…. We did not take breakfast in our accommodation package. We bought products on the way from the famous supermarket chain Masoutis. I recommend the one in Hanioti – it is very well supplied. Many quality hams, cheeses are sold, they have snacks, olives, nuts, everything you can think of. If you have not taken a inflatable mattress, snorkel, fins – you will find them there. You can buy tsipourou, ouzo or a good local wine, for example from the Biblia Chora winery or from Gerovassiliou. If you like aromatic varieties, your white wine is from the Malagousia variety. If you like less aromatic, clean body wine, bet on Assyrtiko. I personally choose blends from Assyrtiko with Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon or Malagousia.
I bought white rum, lime and Coca-Cola, and with the help of the herbs from Kappa’s garden I mixed wonderful Cuba Libre and Mojito cocktails. I made iced tea for the children.
We visited the Kappa restaurant because I was interested in trying their innovative offerings based on Greek traditional cuisine. Read more about it in the post The different cuisine of the restaurant in Kappa Resort, Kassandra, Halkidiki.
Our most frequent choice for dinner was Giannikos Tavern, the pub in the neighboring village of Paliuri. There you can try all the famous Greek dishes – pasticcio, moussaka, buyurdi, octopus, mussels, shrimp, fish, caviar, tirosalata, tzatziki, horiatiki… .. Soup, however, is prepared only by prior request.
On the recommendation of friends, we visited the other side of Kassandra Villa Stasa Fish Restaurant. See more in the post dedicated to it.
