The best thing at Landmark Creek Hotel, Plovdiv is the view to the regatta venue.

The hotel is in the suburbs of the town, the road there is repaired but only to the middle, after which there are a lot of holes. If you are looking for a hotel with pool and SPA, this is your place

The most characteristic, in my opinion, about Landmark Creek is the sensation of old time Balkantourist type of service. Read below why I think so.

See ….

…. The interior in the restaurant is very reminiscent of the past-time Balkantourist restaurants, as for weddings from the old days- big, with wooden dance floor and live music, and just the type that we call restaurant music;

Even more amusing was that they were really preparing the place for  wedding- the tables were stacked on long lines to be ready for the evening celebration the other day and we had to have breakfast on them, side by side with the other rockers, who, like us, had come to Hills of Rock festival. …. Nice prints of famous paintings, some of them by Gustav Klimt, which added artistic and contemporary element, breaking the Balkantourist ambiance.

Feel ….

…. Overall, the service is good. However, on several occasions, especially the first evening in the restaurant and at the reception desk, I had again this feeling of past-times Balkantourist service where they were polite-ish but somehow with the contempt that they are the servicing party, and the guests are the annoying one, that need to be cared for. It did not bother me much, it was amusing more than annoying.

Even the uniforms in the restaurant were like in the past times- black skirt, white shirt and black vest. Reminiscent, especially in combination with the restaurant music;

…. There was no good organization at times. For example, if you decide to consume something from the lobby bar after closing the restaurant, you will have to wait until they figure out what they have available to offer. It was attended by the receptionist and the piccolo. They may not have glasses or anything, searching around, asking each other for info, which causes the customers to wait quite long. The glasses that we had took from the lobby bar upstairs in our room, were left in a cupboard in front of it for the rest of our stay, although we were assured that the house keeping will bring them down. Otherwise there is a great desire to please the client and the people strived to be kind;

…. The rain had penetrated through the joinery and the carpet in the room close to the windows was wet- we felt our feet flopping in it. I told the reception, but they couldn’t take any measures. We just waited for the rain to stop and the carpet to dry by itself;

…. Otherwise the rooms are large and comfortable. Ours was apartment A 702 with a very nice view.

Hear ….

…. Restaurant music- saxophone and some kind of keyboard, which a lady played with a backdrop pre-recorded music. I recorded them to convey the atmosphere. It was quiet and pleasant, but still it was a little funny, again recalling past Balkantourist  years of Bulgarian tourism.

Smell ….

…. A smell of damp from the wet carpeted in the room;

…. The food at breakfast and at dinner in the restaurant had a good look and smell, fortunately not as in the time of Balkantourist, when the products were massively old and bad-looking.

Taste ….

…. But still, there was nothing very remarkable, neither at breakfast, nor in the restaurant menu. I ordered the advertised breaded white fish, but it wasn’t much of a big deal. They served it very hot and I burned my tongue with it.

I would recommend Landmark Creek, only if you look for a quiet place away from the center. However, I would say that the best part in Plovdiv is the center with the old cobbled streets with artisan shops and galleries, the artistic district Kapana with its multiple small restaurants, bars and cafes.
