See…
… Modern, stylish interior – impressive but cozy, with steampunk elements, not much decoration but with noticeable accents like a painting, candles, small pumpkins, spotlights at the entrance, a beautiful fresh flower on each table;
… Perfect presentation in the plates;
… Kitchen visible through a glass wall, you can see the chef preparing your dish with attention to detail, like a painter making a masterpiece.
Feel….
… Comfortable – hidden light and small candles create a special ambiance;
… Good service- professional and friendly, no efforts to choose, the dialogue is easy going in English;
… Crispy very thin bread sticks, served with butter as a welcome starter.
Listen…
… Jazz- including my favorite Glenn Miller.
Smell…
… Especially the green Balkan herbs grinded to powder, offering gentle but memorable flavour;
… Wonderful smell of roasted wild potato and butter in he dish with red mullet;
… Citrus flavor in the orange sorbet.
Taste…
…. Ravioli with goat cheese and snails – the snails are incredibly tender and smell fantastic;
… Shrimps bisque – served with shrimp crunch bisque, small ravioli and a smear of green pesto on the bottom, poured over with the soup;
… White chocolate ball, fennel puree in the center, orange sorbet on the side – nontraditional application of fennel with light sweet taste and tender cooling from the sorbet.
During my last trip to Zagreb, Croatia, I visited many interesting places, with great cuisine, Mediterranean and traditional, offering fantastic wine list from all Croatian regions. I have to mention also, that Croatia produces really god olive oil and truffles.
My first article dedicated to a place in Zagreb, Croatia is about restaurant Noel. For true gourmands, it is definitely the right choice. Chef Goran Kocis and sommelier Ivan Jug have made an incredible combination of innovative gourmet and Croatian wines. Every meal in the menu seemed intriguing and I wanted to try all of them.
Another important fact about Croatia is that you can drink fantastic local wines – both white and red. I was recommended and tasted a white wine of Chardonnay and Malavasia from Istria region and it was the best partner for my Red mullet dish.
I wish I could drink a cocktail or tea, too, another part of the list elaborated with care. This will be my main task the next time I visit Noel.
To all readers of placescases.com, who like good food and wine, if you visit Zagreb, drop by at restaurant Noel, even for a cocktail or tea. You will feel great there, guaranteed!
