See…
… Mirrors of various shape and size on the walls;
… Plate of Michelin, the place is included in the guide but has no stars, and frankly it has a lot to do before getting it;
… Very nice interior with small cute accents;
… A store closed on a weekday at noon (I wasn’t explained what it offers).
Feel….
… Nervousness by the waiter, when I asked him to recommend a dish;
… How the waiter forgets to bring the ordered wine and remembers quite late;
… Reluctance by the waiter to tell me more about the store.
Listen…
… Nice Jazz music;
… Slightly testy tone of the waiter when asked about a recommendation between an appetizer and a main dish.
Apetit Interior
Smell…
… Eastern spices in the dishes prepared in wok;
… The pleasant aroma of Croatian wines, I mention them in all my posts about Croatia.
Taste…
…. Signature of the place is food cooked in a wok – it’s interesting, but not so impressive;
… Pasta, risotto and other representatives of Mediterranean cuisine;
… Local wine.
During my last trip to Zagreb, Croatia, I visited many interesting places, with great cuisine, Mediterranean and traditional, offering fantastic wine list from all Croatian regions. I have to mention also, that Croatia produces really god olive oil and truffles. You can read all other articles dedicated to Croatia using its name as search word in placescases.com.
Restaurant Appetite was recommended to me and Tripadvisor had good reviews about it.
As soon as you enter, you see the red plate of Michelin, proving it was visited by the Michelin inspectors, but the place has no star, and frankly there is a lot to do for it.
I expected more from the Appetite. The pleasant interior suggested good experience and food. And I kept that feeling until I asked the waiter to recommend me a choice between appetizer and main dish from the daily menu. He explained with nervousness, that these are different things, and looked a little outraged by my request.
I believe the staff needs a little more training. When a foreign customer who visits the place for the first time, with no option to come back any time soon asks for a signature dish, it is good the waiters to be able to react quickly, recommend the best corresponding wine, and to be prepared to offer at least 1 more budget option of both, so the customer to remember her/his experience there and recommend it to other future guests of the city.
The wine was served too late when we have almost finished our lunch. The waiter just forgot it.
I asked about the store in the restaurant and was curious what it offers but I was cut off by the waiter with a short and clear explanation that it is closed.
The food wasn’t at the expected level. It looked good in the plates, but the main dish I ordered, veal prepared in a wok, had way too much sauce and it was extremely hot.
If I visit Zagreb again, I would give a second chance to Appetite, but I would recommend to my readers to try other restaurants before it.
