…. Next to the car service in Mladost 2 district, two huge cargo containers, with proper decoration turned into the coolest neighbourhood BBQ and beer spot-I want one of those in our neighbourhood!

…. Cool interior – the containers are lined on the inside with wooden slats and cool bar with a multitude of diverse beer mugs dangling from the holders;

…. Each table has a bio electric Grill – you can prepare on your own English Bacon, lean pork fillets, pork neck (although not sure what bio stands for);

…. Exhaust hoods over each grill on the tables, for no smoke BBQ;

…. Simple menu carte, only the most important stuff, on one page several types of grilled chicken and pork, with the obligatory meatballs, kebabs, sausages and steaks, potatoes, several types of salads, liver and exactly two desserts. On the other page- many kinds of beer, so many, that they can’t fit on the page, and if your beer is not there, go to the big beer cooler to choose whichever you want.

Feel  …

…. Scarce space-  chairs are literally back to back with the neighbours behind you, I had to keep my bag in my lap because I couldn’t swing it on the back of the chair, considering thefts take place exactly that way in the restaurants, and this caused me discomfort;

…. The chairs have interesting design, but their legs stick out obliquely sideways, so when you try to reach your seat to the middle of the table, you stumble into each leg on the way –  annoying;

…. Nice fast service from the girl who served us with a smile but she couldn’t explain why the grill is bio;

…. Occasionally, vibration on the floor coming from subway trains that pass right under the place- frightening when you feel it for the first time.

…. Such chatter, I didn’t hear what was the music- I think contemporary hits;

…. The noise of the boulevard Aleksandar Malinov.

Beer Box interior

Smell …

…. The smell of barbecue and toasted bread ;

Taste … 

…. Minced meat sausages, meatballs, fillets, chicken wings, liver– all very good, but don’t forget to order lyutenitsa (traditional Bulgarian paste of peppers, tomatoes and herbs) and mustard;

…. Toast– it’s just like old times made of white bread, cut in quarters, toasted on the rack, absorbing from the BBQ fumigation;

…. Potatoes, too dry, neither crunchy, nor soft- something wasn’t quite right with them;

…. Beer of course– weiss, bright, dark, English Ale, slightly sweet, very bitter, from many different countries, served in various glass forms.

Beer Box food

You could feel that Beer Boxis too tight and noisy but if you’re with good company of beer-fans and disregard the discomfort, you will have a lot of fun. The grill is very delicious and worth to taste it. I hope more such “beer boxes” will burst in the neighbourhoods like that one. I will go again, although it’s too tight. This time I will not bring my bag.
