We hadn’t been to the Obetsanova Tavern. It is right next to the bell tower in Bansko. It can be seen from all around, and the tables in the yard are usually full in good weather.

…. The wooden tables and the goat fur on them – the pub is designed in a traditional style;

…. Interior full of photos of Bulgarian freedom fighters, flags, old weapons;

…. The geranium, the old rusty cannon and all sorts of similar Bulgarian things.

Feel ….

…. Agile and good service;

Hear ….

…. Folklore music from Pirin region, as well as live music by a small orchestra, which plays and sings very delicately and tenderly. No banging, no swelling of the head, as it often happens in other taverns

Smell ….

…. The grill smells very appetizing – I have no complaints, even about pork, which is a sick topic for me. Why is this you will read in the publication – WHY PORK CHOPS CAN SMELL UNPLEASANT?

Taste ….

…. Besides BBQ, something cooked in the oven, salad and dessert;

…. Why not mushrooms. If you don’t like meat, take them to the salad;

…. I do not recommend French fries – they are not fresh, but blanched;

…. Trojan aged plum rakia- it has a great aroma, it is soft and does not burn you inside. Combine with ayran.

Ayran is a local non-alcoholic drink, prepared from yogurt, water and some salt. Obetsanova’s ayran is remarkably flawless. The taste is unmistakably balanced, with just the right amount of salt. Smooth texture that cools and saturates like an appetizer to the rakia.

…. Lamb shank in the oven – the meat very tender and falls apart from the bone;

…. Homemade grilled sausage – very nice smelling and tasty;

…. If you are a fan, there is also venison.

Well, this pub, the Obetsanova Tavern, is very good. Definitely for me is number 1 in Bansko.

After eating swell, go up the pedestrian street to Pirin mountain direction. Take a look at the small artisan shops, drink a coffee or two somewhere along the way and most importantly do not rush, but breathe fresh air and enjoy the old traditional atmosphere of Bansko.
