In one of the previous articles I mentioned that there are not many places with good Asian cuisine in Bulgaria and I listed only Miyabi, Hamachi-Ni, Genji and Japonica in Plovdiv. I would like to add that Ikigai in mall “Bulgaria” in Sofia also offers good Japanese cuisine. And recently opened another restaurant with Asian cuisine – 888 Taste Show. This restaurant is actually in a conglomeration of another Mediterranean restaurant and a casino. Hence its strange name, beginning with numbers. It is located in Grand Hotel Millennium, where Ozon is, which I have already written about in Eagle’s Eye View from Ozone Skybar and Lounge in Sofia.
The restaurant has teppanyaki and robata, and organizes themed dinners dedicated to them. On Saturdays and Sundays there is a brunch, with fixed price EUR 20, offering also kids menu.
See ….
…. Pleasant interior, decoration with fans on the walls and bouquets of real flowers on the tables;
… Great view, in the afternoon it is sunny and very nice;
…. Monitors that show the preparation of food in the kitchen. The latter is open, but the monitors make it possible to see the work of the chefs from every corner of the restaurant;
…. The menu includes eel nigiri, a favorite of our family.
Feel ….
…. Great service. From the welcoming to the end. Several times the manager came to ask if everything was OK and if we were happy with the food. Everything we asked was explained in detail. I think this is the Asian restaurant with the best service in Sofia.
Hear ….
…. Very pleasant calm music, predisposing to leisure and eating.

Smell ….
…. Smell of green tea in dessert, cheesecake with the matcha.
…. Tom-Yum soup is appropriately spicy and rich in Asian flavor. Unfortunately, I could not find Saint Jacques in it, as it was written in the menu. The same soup was better made in Paelera, which you can read about in What is Paellera, where is the village of Chekanchevo and what does it have to do with Valencia in Spain or Thailand?
…. I missed the typical coriander scent in ceviche with sea bass. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t wow. Rather, it seemed a little impersonal, despite the presence of small pieces of mango.
Taste ….
…. Sweet Jacques, or Saint Jacques mussels in a sweet and sour sauce with aioli on top – pleasant, but needed extra seasoning;
…. Fish gyoza – it looked real hand-made, it was even obvious that it was made on the spot, the shapes were not calibrated it was very tasty.
… Unfortunately the sushi was not at the expected level. The rice of roll broke down when gripped with the sticks. Really good sushi can be tasted in Miyabi with the greatest Bulgarian master of Japanese cuisine, chef Mihalchev.
…. Chicken noodles – not only looked very appetizing, with well-roasted chicken pieces, but they were very tasty.
…. The matcha cheesecake was not at the expected level either. Slightly impersonal, and the plating can be an idea improved.
I can’t help but compare it to the desserts at Miyabi, which thwarts all attempts at competition based on green tea. Read about them in Restaurant Miyabi-Japanese cuisine in Sofia, Bulgaria.
… You can’t get wine by the glass, but at least small bottles of 375 and 185 ml are available. The wine list contains relatively common for most of the average restaurants, without standing out with many interesting proposals.
The greatest advantage of 888 Taste Show are the teppanyaki and robata, which are not available elsewhere with one or two exceptions.
