After many years in Lazy, Chef Ivo Petkov moved to a new place, on the heart of Sofia, on Vitoshka Street named Spoon. You will see it as a Spoon and Background location. That’s right, the place used to be called Background.
We are very happy that we can once again enjoy the culinary mastery of the Lord of the Chefs star, Chef Petkov.
Some remember him as a sous-chef at the oldest restaurant of chef Viktor Angelov, Chef’s, on the way to Borovets. Even then, he could tell stories about masterpieces on a plate.

…. Natural flowers in a vase on every table;
…. Everyone is involved clients service, no matter if they are waiters, bartenders, cooks, sommelier. In this way, the contact with the audience is direct and lively, responding fast and targeted to customers’ wishes, so to make their experience pleasant and memorable;
…. Unlike Lazy, when I asked for wine by the glass, not only was there a superb Spanish wine that was poured from a bottle, but they also told me the cellar and the year.
Whatever wine you choose at Spoon is good, whether you take a whole bottle or a glass. The selection for the wine list is great, with predominant samples from Italy and Spain.
…. Unfortunately, none of the staff wears a mask and there are no disinfectants in easily accessible places for customers. This is the reason for a heart to fall from the rating in this category.
…. Slow jazz, very pleasant and calm. As we were sitting on the seating on Vitoshka Street, at one time we could hear street musicians, as well as the musical accompaniment of dancers on the street.

…. Aroma of basil from the Gin Basil Smash cocktail, as well as from the basil sorbet, which you can order as a dessert. It is served with a crispy rice chips on top – very unusual, but fun;
…. Light cumin in the quesadilla – thin bread layers, between which there is a filling of vegetables;
…. Mango and papaya ice cream – a wonderful tropical aroma!
As I already mentioned in the post Back to Chef’s, after the big closure due to Covid-19, Sofia, the great skill in cooking is most evident in the simple things. When a salad is made in such a way that there is no need to add anything, neither salt nor acid, you are just dealing with proficiency. And here it is.
…. Burrata salad with pomegranate powder does not need any additives. Only a little olive oil is put in front of you, as for the show. Just perfect!
…. Pasta for the day – maybe with bacon or beef, it is still fragrant and very tasty.
…. Beef with potato gratin and truffle sauce – cooked exactly as you want it;
…. Fish can be sea bass or other white type available, topped with black sesame and fish broth sauce made with rice starch, garnished with noodles Soba, edamame, vegetables, purple potato Vitelotte, which texture resembles a truffle, on the side a wonderful wasabi made of jelly balls.
Soba noodles are made from buckwheat flour and are very low in gluten. So this dish is also suitable for people with such a diet.
…. Sorbet for dessert, they prepare all kinds on the spot. Just ask for them.
…. Pumpkin pie, with a crispy dough layer on which the pumpkin cream is placed. It has a ball of mango and papaya ice cream.
