Very close to the border with Greece, in the village of Marikostinovo is the SPA hotel Mantar and its restaurant, which is mentioned here. We went there for lunch and it turned out that their kitchen was a big surprise. Read below why.

See ….

…. Stylish menu, printed on expensive paper, lunch special offers and not very large main menu – i.e. they work with an emphasis on quality;

…. Paintings inside, green lawn outside;

…. Great food plating!

…. The restaurant has white tablecloths and draperies, but people in swimsuits were allowed, from the pool to enter inside.

I understand the desire to serve all customers, but I think it is good to require beachgoers nearby to wear something on top, rather than walking in wet and weeping flip-flops, all kinds of swimsuits, regardless of the physical characteristics of their owner, etc.

Feel ….

.… The waiters tried very hard, but being only 2 of them, they hardly succeeded to serve timely the many weekend visitors,so they were exhausted. Only half a heart is lost, because given the busy situation, they held the front quite well and apologized to us many times for the delays;

…. Crispy bruschettas to the salad with tomatoes, peppers and buffalo cheese.

 Hear ….

…. Music from the 90’s, from a music channel on the TV monitors – it was nice.

Smell ….

…. Smoky in the wonderful sauce with smoked cheese to the chicken breast

…. The sharp and playful aroma of red peppercorns, with which the salad is decorated and seasoned. A bold, unconventional combination, but surprisingly successful!

Taste ….

The cuisine of Mantar Restaurant is superb – a little jewel at the end of Bulgaria! I found out that the chef had been working in Park Hotel Pirin or as we know it Hotel Sharlopov in Sandanski.

…. Even the simplest tarator is very tasty – with extras such as walnuts and a little garlic;

Tarator is a traditional cold soup in Bulgaria, made of yogurt with a little cold water, salted, diced cucumber, a strip of olive oil, finely chopped dill and depending on your taste you can add finely chopped garlic, walnuts.

…. Veiled eggs with milk tartare – just ordinary eggs in a way that you can even eat your fingers-  absolutely delightful!

…. Salads are with very tasty vegetables;

…. Buffalo yellow cheese in a golden crust – breaded pieces, which are served with blueberry jam. Very tasty!

…. Wonderful canola with mascarpone for dessert.

Even if it’s a bit far to go for a weekend at the Mantar Hotel, stop at least on your way to Greece to have lunch at his restaurant. I warn you that the food is delicious and not for a quick meal, but for enjoyment. You can stay there so that you don’t have to fight the time and eat and drink in peace.

If you are looking for a vacation place with warm climate like in Greece, but you do not want to do PCR tests, Mantar is an option that does not require you to cross the border!
