If you have never spent your summer on Kassandra, the first leg of the Halkidiki peninsula, or if you have not been there for a long time, then this guide will be very useful for you. If you travel there regularly, you can find something new here, and also comment, share, add information under the post here and on the pages of placescases.com in Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter.
Kassandra
Cassandra is the first leg of Halkidiki. It has been developing in the field of tourism for a long time, compared to the other two legs, and is already quite urbanized. Years ago, back in 2001, when I started visiting it, there were 1-2 large hotels and many smaller, family-type ones. It is now much more populated, dotted with many guest houses, villas, ordinary and luxury, hotels from small unpretentious to 5-star. There is something for everyone.
If you like nightlife, clubs and beach bars – Kassandra is your place. It is full of cool restaurants with food and music for every taste – from expensive restaurants and bars to small family taverns.
In the middle of the leg is a whole conglomeration of huge halls, which are actually discos. Each of them plays a different genre of music – you choose according to your preferences. Of course, there is a large parking lot to this thing.
Read where some of the coolest beach bars in Kassandra are in the post Where can you go to a nice beach bar in Kassandra, Halkidiki?
Afitos
The town of Afitos is located in the northern part of the leg. It is very nice and romantic with its small cobbled streets, bars with jazz music and candles that glow in the evening. There is a nice coastline with many restaurants and a terraced bar at the end.
In the vicinity, a beach with a nice beach bar, is Liosi, where great music is played and is located just below Blue Bay Hotel. The latter has a swimming pool and a nice view. You can go to the beach by car, there is also a parking lot, but if you are staying at the hotel, you can try and go down the stairs to it. The problem is that then you have to upload them and this is a serious training. The hotel is nice, at the time it was smaller and much more romantic. It is not in the center of the village, but it is much calmer where it is located.
Regarding the taverns in Afitos, I would recommend first hand Oceanides. They have a wonderful view to the sea and there you can try something that is not available often and everywhere – Sea urchin. They prepare it very well. Read about this restaurant in Oceanides – different fish restaurant, at the edge of Afytos, Kassandra, Halkidiki.
Next to Oceanides is Thea Thalassa, again a fish tavern, which also has a very nice view.
Another good place, but already in the luxury category is Sani Resort. It consists of several parts. One is Sani Beach,, which is a hotel with a large pool and is close to the beach. Sani Club consists of cottages, some with private pool, others with garden only. Sani Dunes is a luxury apartment complex with a large shared pool suitable for families with teenagers. Sani Asterias are luxury beachfront apartments set apart from the rest, while Porto Sani is a yacht resort located on the marina.
On Sani you can enjoy a wide strip, shallow water and fine sand. The beach of the resort has a large parking lot, a fee is paid, but they give you nice towels. If you have discretionary budget on your disposal you can dine at noon at See You-an Asian fusion bar near the beach.
Paliuri to the South on the leg
If you want to go to a luxury villa with its own pool and a kitchenette, in a quiet place near the beach, read about Kappa Resort and if you like, book your holiday in the reservation box below the post.
To the South, at the very end of the leg, a good fish tavern is Villa Stasa Fish Restaurant, which also serves sea urchins, but not as good as the those in Oceanides.
There is a smaller tavern with good food and always freshly cooked meal like moussaka, buyurdi or pasticcio, in the village of Paliuri. Its name is Giannikos. See why I liked it in the post Giannikos- Good Greek Tavern in Paliuri, Kassandra, Halkidiki.
A more expensive and more in the fine dining category restaurant is that of Kappa Resort.
Other good hotels in Kassandra, again personally checked by placescases.com, but visited long ago are Grecotel Margo Bay Club Turquoise, close to Hanioti, Aegean Melathron Thalasso Spa Hotel, close to Kalithea.
Psakoudia
On the road between the first and second legs there is a village named Psakoudia. The village is tiny but hosts a good 5 star hotel there. Read about it in the publication: CRONWELL RESORT SERMILIA- SPACIOUS, CLOSE TO THE BEACH, WITH ANIMATION FOR KIDS HOTEL, PSAKOUDIA, HALKIDIKI, GREECE and book your stay in it directly in the reservation box below it. The beach is fantastic, the water is shallow at the beginning and is very suitable for families with children. The hotel has organized animation for children and adults. At the top of the building there is a sky bar with a wonderful view. The only drawback is that all the restaurants and the hotel are on the same street, and the beach is literally on the other side. It is not good for children to cross alone, and the noise of the night life can prevent those in need of an earlier rest.
